Yulia Ani is a Berlin-based visual artist whose practice centers on abstract painting. Born in Russia and having lived in the United States, France, and Germany, her transnational background informs an ongoing interest in perception and the ways visual realities are constructed and interpreted.

Her work has been exhibited across Germany and internationally at galleries, institutions, and art fairs, including Bethanien (Berlin), Galerie Grolman (Berlin), Every Woman Biennial (Copeland Gallery, London), and Discovery Art Fair (Frankfurt). Her works are held in private collections worldwide.

Ani’s paintings develop through an intuitive process that balances spontaneity and control. Distorted forms, simplified shapes, vibrant color fields, and expressive lines move between figuration and abstraction. Her compositions examine how images are perceived, fragmented, and reconstructed within contemporary visual culture.

Alongside her painting practice, Ani has recently begun incorporating AI-generated imagery into selected works. She creates AI-generated photographs of synthetic landscapes and uses them as a printed ground for spontaneous abstract painting. These gestural interventions interrupt and transform the digital composition, introducing human intuition and unpredictability into algorithmically generated imagery. Ani then photographs the resulting paintings and reintroduces them into AI-based processes, where the painted abstractions are animated and translated into moving digital images. Through this cyclical process - from digital image to painting and back to digital space - abstraction shifts between material presence and synthetic visual environments.

Ani is also expanding her practice through sculptural objects and spatial installations, while curating and co-curating exhibitions that explore dialogue between different artistic media.
