“For me, abstract painting is one of the most sincere forms of artistic expression. Without the need to depict specific objects, it allows emotions and inner states to appear more directly. At the same time, abstraction leaves space for the viewer. Because nothing is clearly defined, each person can connect to the work in their own way, through their own associations and experiences.”

Yulia Ani’s practice is grounded in abstract painting that develops through an intuitive process balancing spontaneity and control.
In recent works, Ani deliberately places this painterly language in dialogue with artificial image generation. She creates synthetic landscapes using AI and uses them as printed grounds for spontaneous abstract painting. These gestural interventions interrupt and transform the digital composition, introducing human intuition and unpredictability into an algorithmically generated image. By confronting fully synthetic visual environment with expressive abstraction, the works examine the tension between human gesture and machine-produced imagery.
Ani completed her art education in Moscow and later studied painting at SKBG in Berlin. In 2024 she completed the course “Contemporary Art Since 1990” at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
Her work has been exhibited across Germany and internationally at galleries, institutions, and art fairs, including Bethanien (Berlin), BBA Gallery (Berlin), Galerie Grolman (Berlin), SLP Gallery (Berlin), Every Woman Biennial (Copeland Gallery, London), and Discovery Art Fair (Frankfurt).
Her works are held in private collections worldwide.
