Coalescence is Yulia Ani’s latest series, exploring emotional withdrawal as a response to the overwhelming pace and fragmentation of contemporary life. In an era marked by polarization, information overload, and the erosion of cultural cohesion, retreating into an inner space becomes more than escapism- it turns into a conscious act of self-preservation.
Through this body of work, Ani reflects on her personal strategies for maintaining a fragile internal balance. Her large-scale paintings reveal a new formal structure: the canvas is divided into two distinct sections, symbolizing the attempt to reconcile emotional opposites: chaos and calm, exposure and protection. This compositional duality echoes the very process of coalescence: the merging of conflicting states into a tenuous but necessary unity.
